Some bands get crowds of screaming fans, and some bands get sold out concerts. Then there are some who get both, all with the comforts of home.

Hoquiam is a small town that neighbors other small towns. One of these is the hometown of Kurt Cobain, one of the members of the band Nirvana; though he lived there briefly, the town has claimed him as one of their own.

To celebrate Nirvana’s newly appointed position in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Hoquiam has declared April 10, 2014 to be ‘Nirvana Day.’

Cobain spent most of his time in the neighboring region of Aberdeen, but always came back to the small town that hosted a population of less than 10,000 people.

The band is honored by the town’s gesture. Hoquiam’s mayor, Jack Durney, announced on local KXRO radio that Nirvana are their “sons” and deserved to be honored.

All of us here at PopWrapped would like to offer our congrats to Nirvana!
