Looks like the group of One Direction is heading for another direction – stealing other bands music.
Chad Gilbert guitarist of the band New Found Glory, my personal favorite band of all time, hit up Twitter the other day stating that the intro to 1D new song ‘Steal My Girl’ is almost identical to the intro to NFG song ‘It’s Not Your Fault.’
I’ve decided to do some detective work and listen to both songs and ya know what, they do in fact sound almost identical. Great originality there 1D song writers, come up with your own musical intro!
Later on in the day, Gilbert clarified that he wasn’t personally attacking the band members, but the co-writers. After receiving hundreds of offensive tweets, Gilbert stated yesterday on One Direction’s Twitter,
.@onedirection Your fans spew the most racist/homophobic/sexist hate I have ever seen on the Internet… You have a platform to change that.

Other musicians are chiming in as well on Gilbret side. Paramore’s Hayley Williams also tweeted the similarity between the two songs, in a comical tweet I might add. Later on Williams clarified,

‘Steal My Girl’ was co-written by Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson of the group along with others, so the group must have somehow known that the intro was very familiar to the NFG song. I can understand creating your own original music is very difficult (John Rzeznik of Goo Goo Dolls wrote the song “Iris” in an hour, but that’s none of my business), but to steal someone else’s hard work is an all time low.
What do you think, did 1D flat out steal NFG intro? Was it an innocent mistake or is this a ploy to get more media attention? I want to hear your comments below!
