Dominican fashion designer Oscar de la Renta died today, October 20. He was 82.
The cause of death is unknown, but his health had been on the decline this month.
His dresses have stunned on the red carpet, on everyone from brides to First Ladies to actresses. Most recently, Michelle Obama wore one of his creations, and he designed the wedding gown Amal Alamuddin wore to wed George Clooney in Venice.
Earlier this month, he had named Peter Copping as creative director of his fashion house, which launched its ready-to-wear label in 1965.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 2006.
“Yes, I had cancer. Right now, I am totally clean. The only realities in life are that you are born, and that you die. We always think we are going to live forever. The dying aspect we will never accept. The one thing about having this kind of warning is how you appreciate every single day of life,” he said last year.
PopWrapped sends its condolences to his friends and family.
