There are no losers at the Academy Awards! At least that’s what the “Everybody Wins At the Oscars” gift bags would have you believe. For the past twelve years Distinctive Assets, an L.A.-based marketing firm, has given these extraordinary bags to the “unfortunate” nominees that are forced to go home empty-handed.
This year’s bag contains items with a combined value of around $55,000. That’s up $7,000 from last year but $35,000 less than the bags given in 2010.
So what do the losers, erm, recipients get? On the cheap end is a bottle of Aviv 613 Vodka valued at about $30. At the opposite end of the spectrum is a private, custom Walk Japan tour package worth a cool $15,000. Sandwiched between these are dozens of other treasures including a Gizara Arts print ($1,000), M3K Beauty products ($100) and Epic Pet Health Therapy ($1572).
However, before you think it’s exclusively materialistic, the recipients are also able to donate 10,000 meals of Halo natural pet food to an animal shelter of their choosing.
Most unusual gift in this year’s bag? That honor might go to a helping of Mace Brand Pepper Spray valued at $120. Not sure if they thought that one through as well as they should have. The last thing we want is to see Dame Judi Dench and Amy Adams ganging up on Meryl Streep and blinding her if she wins her fourth Academy Award.
Then again, think of the photos.
