The 50 Shades of Grey fan base was shocked to say the least when Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam was cast to play the leading role of Christian Grey, which made it even more surprising when he dropped out shortly after being cast. The producers and director wasted no time in filling the role of Mr. Grey their replacement was the Irish actor and model Jamie Dornan.

Charlie Hunnam recently spoke to TMZ about Dornan, “I’m sure he’ll do a great job. I don’t really know his work, but I know Sam [Taylor-Wood], the director, is amazing, and she has fantastic taste, so I’m sure he’ll do a great job.” Sam Taylor- Wood is set to direct the film adaptation or E.L. James’s bestselling series that captured the attention of many people. Mark Bomback (The Wolverine) and Patrick Marber (Closer) have been tasked with refining Kelly Marcel’s script.

Dakota Johnson will be playing Jamie Dornan’s on screen love interest as Anastasia Steele. Johnson has stated that she views the novel as, “an incredible love story”. Johnson added more detail “[EL James] did a really good job of explaining how that just can happen sometimes and you have this chemical pull to someone. Adding in the sex makes it perfect. Sometimes you feel a little bit naughty and that’s okay.”

50 Shades of Grey production was set back because of Hunnam’s surprising exit. Due to the production set back the film is set to hit the big screen Valentine’s Day 2015.
