The spin-off horror movie, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, received the cold shoulder from the public as the new animated film Frozen took the top spot at the Box Office.
Appropriate to the current weather conditions, Frozen raked in a nice $20.7 million at the top spot, whereas Paramount’s The Marked Ones managed to debut at the second spot with $18.2 million.
This is still an impressive achievement for the Paranormal Activity franchise, which has previously released 4 other rather successful horror flicks. However, this particular release is a separate story from the last 4 Paranormal Activity films, but still possess the infamous low-budget filming quality that the previous movies offered.
For the past 7 weeks, the Disney animation has dominated cinemas along with Warner-Bros.’ The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which is currently in the third spot in the Box Office.
It is possible that the timing of the release of Frozen may have contributed to the success it has seen so far. The cold, snowy weather and the festive season might have drawn in larger audiences.
