Director Peter Jackson released Ed Sheeran’s “I See Fire”, a song from the soundtrack of the upcoming movie The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The acoustic track will also play during the credits of the movie. “I See Fire” is currently available to download on iTunes.
The music video for the song features scenes from the movie as well as behind-the-scene shots of Sheeran and Jackson in the studio. This is Sheeran’s first musical contribution to a movie soundtrack.
“[Peter Jackson] was fantastic. At every point where I’d be adding something, I’d play him the song afterwards,” Sheeran told Entertainment Weekly, “I was there for three days, and at the end of every day he would come and listen to the song and give me notes.”
Quite fittingly, Sheeran is also a fan of J.R.R Tolkien. The Hobbit was the first book his father read to him as a child.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug enters theatres on December 13th. Sheeran’s newest studio album will come out next year.
