Peter O’Toole Has Died After A Long Illness

It has been announced in the last hour that iconic actor Peter O’Toole has died at the age of 81.

The star best known for his role in Lawrence of Arabia, died in a London hospital following a long illness, said Steve Kenis his agent in a statement today.

The actor also starred in Season 2 of the BBC/Showtime show The Tudors when he played Pope Paul III, who was responsible for excommunicating King Henry VIII from the Catholic Church.  His retirement from acting was announced in July 2012 with the statement “I bid the profession a dry-eyed and profoundly grateful farewell.”

The Irish actor, who was awarded an honourary Oscar back in 2003 as he was nominated eight times however he never won.  He is survived by two daughters and one son.
