It’s probably going to be for nothing, but this is pretty telling…..
Tennessee resident Christian Ferguson launched a Change.org petition last week to have Billboard retract Iggy Azalea’s 2015 win for Top Rap Song (“Fancy”).
The petition read:
The eligibility time period for nominations is March 10th, 2014 through March 2015. “Fancy” was released on February 17th, 2014, nearly a month before the eligibility starting. This is unfair to the other nominees in these category, especially to “Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj, who most likely would’ve won. Billboard did not follow their own guidelines and should have to recalculate these nominations without “Fancy” as a nominee.
Since the launch, the petition has gained 17,000 signatures.
Iggy went on to beat out Nicki Minaj’s ‘Anaconda’, Big Sean and Bobby Shmurda for the Top Song win. The Australian rapper also went on to win Top Streaming Artist and Top Rap Artist.
Iggy has yet to respond to the petition……..
And it’s unlikely that she even will.
