Every Tuesday night, I find myself glued to the television and laughing so hard at the new show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It’s an action comedy television series that airs on Fox. This hilarious show is set in the fictitious 99th precinct of the New York City Police Department in Brooklyn. It’s about a diverse group of detectives who get a new, strict Captain. If you never watched this hysterical new show, here are five appropriate reasons why you should!

1. The entire cast is highly entertaining and they all have their own unique personalities!

Jake Peralta, played by SNL alumnus Andy Samburg, is a talented but immature detective. He constantly pulls pranks and makes jokes at the expense of his colleagues, particularly his partner, Amy Santiago. Go-getter Amy Santiago is constantly trying to impress the Captain. She is competitive by nature because of her seven brothers. Then there’s Boyle, a nervous and awkward yet  hard-working detective, who has a crush on his fellow coworker, Detective Diaz. Tough, clever, and mysterious are some traits to describe Diaz. Unemotional and simply robotic Captain Holt is an openly gay Commanding Officer. The detectives have a tough time reading his emotions. Previously working with the Captain, Sergeant Crews is the tough guy, but he is also the loveable husband and father of twin girls. The Captain’s mono-toned assistant, Gina, is always trying to find a way to be sarcastic to the detectives.

2. Not just any cop show!

At first, I didn’t want to tune into this show because I thought it was one of those wannabe comedic cop shows. I was obviously wrong. The show doesn’t spend a lot of time on their work, but it also shows their personal lives. This helps viewers feel connected to the characters.

3. Every episode gets wittier!

I believe every episode gets funnier, if that’s even possible. The show provides clever one liners that will have you laughing out loud. The entire cast is absolutely hilarious! Unlike other shows, Brooklyn Nine-Nine doesn’t take too much time on one character.

4. It’s already won two Golden Globes!

Even though this show started in September, the pilot episode attracted 6.17 million viewers. The show won a Golden Globe for Best TV Series-musical or comedy. It beat out some of the top shows: The Big Bang Theory, Girls, Modern Family, and Parks and Recreation. Andy Samburg also won for Best Actor for musical or comedy.

5. It doesn’t depict racial stereotypes!

Set in the diverse city of New York, Brooklyn Nine-Nine doesn’t make a big deal out of the diverse crowd. Unlike other television shows, the character’s racial and ethnic backgrounds are never used for punch lines.

I hope these five reasons will make you want to watch this comedic show. And if you’re already in love with it, you’ll be happy to know the show has been renewed for another season as of March 9th!
