Stop your sleuthing: It has been confirmed that Rachel McAdams is the female star of “True Detective”

No more detective work is needed: we finally have confirmation that Rachel McAdams will star in True Detective season 2.

After months of speculation, it has been confirmed by the studio and by Rolling Stone that Rachel McAdams joins the cast of the cult hit HBO series and will star alongside her fellow acting heavyweights Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch to round out the cast.

McAdams will be joined by Kelly Reilly as one of the female leads for the pulp noir show.

HBO has confirmed that McAdams will play Ventura County Sheriff Ani Bezzerides, a detective whose “uncompromising ethics puts her at odds with the system she serves” and her tough upbringing is to blame for her gambling and drinking problem.

Colin Farrell will play a corrupt cop caught between the police and the mob, Kitsch will play a motorcycle cop running from his past and Kelly Reilly will play Joan, the wife of Vince Vaughn’s character and will be equal player in his illegal activities.

Are you excited? I’m excited.

True Detective season 1 was a smash hit both critically and with a worldwide audience, for its tight storytelling and beautiful cinematography (that 6 minute tracking shot at the climax of episode 4 was unbelievably cool). In fact, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson’s stellar performances in season 1—and subsequent news that they would not star in the second series and that it would be an anthology show—brought every actor’s name out of the woodwork as being attaché to the show, with the cast finally being confirmed in full today. Scheduling conflicts are to blame for the late confirmation on the character as McAdams is also set to star in Spotlight, which would have prevented her from committed to True Detective, but a compromise has been reached and she can take on both projects.

True Detective series 2 will be a whodunit based on sunny California with dark goings on and revolves around three police officers and a career criminal who navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder”.

With Fast & Furious director Justin Lin set to direct the first two episodes, it should be a tense thrill ride of a series.

The start date has not yet been announced, but we’ll keep you posted, folks.
