Childhood nostalgia is hitting Hallmark stores this summer. Select Hallmark stores within the United States will carry plush re-issues of Rainbow Brite, her friend Twink, and horse Starlight. A new book, and various Rainbow Brite themed Itty Bittys will also be available.
Rainbow Brite seems to be making quite the comeback. This news coming months after streaming service Feeln aired an updated version of the cartoon series featuring the voices of Emily Osment and Molly Ringwald. Iris Ichishita, head of original entertainment at Feeln said of the series “we believe we have created something that captures the essence of the original series – but with a vision that resonates today”.
The series began airing in 1983 and wrapped up in 1986. The story follows a little girl named Wisp as she brings colour to the the world using her magical Colour Belt and Star Sprinkles. The show inspired a line of toys that topped most Christmas wish lists throughout the 1980s.
The doll, book, and Itty Bittys will only be available in the United States, but hopefully strong sales will encourage Hallmark to sell the product in other markets.
Will you be rushing out for a Rainbow Brite doll?
