The music industry has lost a legend. Phil Everly (of the Everly Brothers) passed away on January 3, 2014. He was 74-years-old.

His wife was at his side when he passed away in his Burbank home. Due to years of smoking, Everly ultimately died from lung disease. “We are absolutely heartbroken,” she told the Los Angeles Times.

In the 1950s and early 1960s, Phil and his brother, Don, joined together to create “the most important vocal duo in rock,” according to Rollingstone magazine. The duo had a long list of top songs, which included “Wake Up Little Suzie”, “Cathy’s Clown”, “Bye Bye Love”, and “All I Have To Do Is Dream”.

However, the music did not last forever. In 1973, the Everly Brothers broke up onstage. This led to a lengthy estrangement between Don and Phil. However, the siblings mended their relationship and ultimately they became closer because of it.
