Review: The Last Sharknado

‘The Last Sharknado: Its About Time’ lives up to its name as we finish this promising series of films with a true mess.

Syfy premiered the sixth, and final, installment of the 'Sharknado' series and it was not a fun ride, at all. Back in 2013, the first Sharknado arrived and changed the 'B' movie shark game with its tongue in cheek set up and execution. With the first film, there was magic. What should have never launched a six movie franchise, was a shark movie that took itself as seriously as it should and delivered what we wanted. After the first film, each Sharknado that followed tried to capture the same vibe but was unable to, resulting in each one getting worse.

In The Last Sharknado, Fin (Ian Ziering) has to travel back in time to stop the first ever sharknado and fix everything. Tara Reid returns as his wife, April, along with Cassie Scerbo as Nova, each from the original film. Vivica A. Fox reprises her role as Skye, joining the team to stop the mess before it can ever start. With the Sharknado films, each one tried to top the last, we’ve been to space and now it’s time travel. The sharks don’t pose the same threat in this latest film as they did in the beginning. The true drama comes from characters and time travel, but it’s Sharknado which means the biggest threat should be sharks flying from the sky.

In this last (hopefully) film, the sharks are among dinosaurs, cowboys, knights, and wars. We wish we had something positive to say about this movie since we loved the first one, but it was all awful, especially the ending. They used every movie line known to film history and only came across as a washed up version of what it used to be. We don’t want to spoil the film, but we will say that not every beloved character makes a comeback throughout Fin’s life saving mission. Syfy will play it plenty of times and you’ll be able to catch it, but we recommend you watch the original again. If you watched the latest Sharknado, what did you think?
