Rikers Island Corrections Officer Charged With Rape

A corrections officer on Rikers Island has been charged with the rape of a female inmate. Another officer supposedly watched the assault.

While there are many of us who have a lot to be thankful for this time of year, we must not forget those who do not. There are those who cannot afford a turkey dinner, or a ticket home to see their families, or get the day off of work.

And there are those who are serving time.

A report from the New York Post states that a corrections officer at Rikers Island has been charged with the rape of a female inmate. This is a new federal lawsuit filed in Manhattan.

The woman is only known as “Jane Doe.” According to the lawsuit, a male inmate bribed an officer so e could be alone with Doe on a bus owned by the correction facility. Once the male inmate left the scene, the officer came back and raped her.

“Doe considered screaming out but chose not to scream because she realized that any officers who might respond from the [prison] were apt to be male and Doe was frightened that they might assault her as well.”

Another officer reportedly got on the bus to watch the rape because the rapist wanted “to give him a show.” The rape was reported to have lasted 15 minutes, during which time Doe was too scared to cry for help.

While the city’s Law Department says they will review the claims, they have not said whether or not they have received an official complaint. Once they receive a formal complaint, they will move forward with their investigation.
