Rita Ora Unveils New Single, ‘Poison’

After a really long hiatus, Rita Ora has returned to the scene with her brand-new single, titled “Poison”.

It’s been a while since Rita Ora kicked off the promotional era for her forthcoming, sophomore studio album with the Calvin Harris-crafted “I Will Never Let You Down”. However, her break-up with the well-known DJ and producer lead to a hiatus, which is now over with the release of her brand-new single, “Poison”.

The Sir Nolan-produced and Kate Nash co-penned track serves as a more toned-down, kind of midtempo pop tune. The guitar and piano melodies fill its slow-burning verses, as the synths build it to the chorus and finally explode. You can tell from the very first listen that “Poison” is more of a grower, as it’s not as instant as the songstress’ previous efforts. However, Rita Ora manages to sound great on it and her vocals are perfectly on point. She has done the most she could possibly do with this one, but there is no denying that a more radio-friendly pop song would have worked better for her at this point. Despite being quite generic, something like Nicole Scherzinger’s track of the same title from back in the day would have been a better option.

“Poison” serves as the second official offering to be lifted from the Fifty Shades Of Grey star’s upcoming, as-yet-untitled studio album, following the almost one-year-old “I Will Never Let You Down”. Hopefully, the tracks on the record will be more like the latter and less like the former. Moreover, we wouldn’t say no to some urban-esque tunes from Rita Ora either. For the time being, check out the lyric video for “Poison” below.
