You know you live in a world completely affected by social media when a celebrity has to address rumors that they died.
On Saturday, November 9th, a rumor started to circulate on both Facebook and Twitter, that singer Celine Dion died in an accident. One report said it was a plane crash, one report said it was a car accident, obviously, neither were true. This is not the first time she has been the victim of such a rumor, in an interview with Digital Spy, she said “Many years ago, I [apparently] killed myself in my own garage. Don’t ask me why I don’t want to be a part of the showbiz industry!” She got the news celebrating her twins birthday in Montreal, she started receiving phone calls that there were posts on Facebook saying she had died.
Naturally, the false rumors are upsetting and make her “a little mad” because of how they effect her family. Dion worries about her mother, saying, “She’s 86 years old and if I’m not on the phone telling her I’m OK four seconds after it’s on the news… it doesn’t matter what they say, it’s the impact is has on your family.”
Dion also said that the reports make her “stay away from that side of things even more” then adding “but I’m glad I’m not dead!”
So are we Celine, so are we.
