What’s the first thing you would do once released from prison? TWEET JOKES OBVIOUSLY!

Two of the recently freed members of the Russian activist group, Pussy Riot, have taken to English Twitter to spread the word of world equality. Once freed in December, after being convicted of hooliganism for singing protest songs in a cathedral, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina previously tweeted in their native language from their accounts, but recently felt the need to transition to Twitter in English. A third member of the group, Yekaterina Samutsevitch, was freed on appeal in October 2012.

Taking a jab at the restrictions in other countries, Pussy Riot fit right in with the satirical tone of the social medium. The group soon posted a humorous picture with Her director, Spike Jonze, claiming they were “Jackass-style girls”.

The group has been very vocal in their “home” nation of Russia, known for donning colorful ski masks when protesting. In March, the duo were attacked at a McDonald’s restaurant in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, where they had visited to take part in a prison protest alongside other activists.
