British actor Sacha Baron Cohen is said to be in early talks to star in Disney’s sequel to the live action Alice in Wonderland.
The film is said to be hitting theaters Memorial Day weekend 2016. The sequel would see the return of Mia Wasikowska in the title role and Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter.
Cohen, known for his controversial roles on television and in films for portraying characters like Borat and Bruno, would re-team with Depp. The pair starred in the Tim Burton helmed Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Burton will not return to direct the sequel of the $1.02 billion grossing Disney hit.
Instead, the picture will be head by James Bobin, who directed 2011’s The Muppets and this spring’s Muppets Most Wanted for the company.
Alice in Wonderland 2 is set to begin shooting in June or July, with Joe Roth, Jennifer Todd, and Suzanne Todd producing. Along with Alice 2, Cohen is set to star in Grimsby, an espionage spoof distributed by Paramount.
