Samuel Anderson will be joining the cast of Doctor Who as the newest companion who will travel with The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) in the show’s eighth season.
The actor, who is most famous for playing Ross Kirk in Emmerdale between 2007 and 2009, shared his excitement about his new role, saying, “I was so excited to join Doctor Who, I wanted to jump and click my heels but I was scared I might not come down before filming started. It’s a quintessential part of British Culture and I can’t believe I’m part of it.” He also added, “It’s an honour to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can’t wait to sow people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo.”
According to the BBC, “Anderson will play Danny Pink, a teacher at Coal Hill School where Oswald also teaches.”
But this isn’t the first time that two teachers were onboard the infamous T.A.R.D.I.S. Whovians will remember that the Doctor’s first companions Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright were also teachers at Coal Hill School, where they taught the Doctor’s beloved granddaughter Susan in the original 1963 series.
Filming for the 8th series of Doctor Who is well underway and the crew are reportedly already working on the fourth and fifth episodes!. This will be Capaldi’s first series as The Doctor after former Doctor, Matt Smith, took his last trip on the T.A.R.D.I.S in the 2013 Christmas Special.
