This isn't the first time Jackson has crticized Trump, in the past he has been very vocal in his opposition to his Presidency.
The idea to arm teachers came about in the aftermath of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Highschool shooting in Florida last week, which caused the deaths of 17 students and faculty. The surviving students of the school since then has led a strong campaign for stricter gun control regulations. Their relentless outcry prompted Trump to pay attention and he hosted a televised listening session in the White House with some of the survivors and their parents in attendance.
After hearing the suggestions of those in attendance, he showed that he is open to the idea of stricter background checks and raising the minimum purchase but he seemed to lean towards the controversial proposal of arming teachers.
In a tweet though, Trump did emphasize that he wants to leave it to the individual States to decide what is right for them.
Armed Educators (and trusted people who work within a school) love our students and will protect them. Very smart people. Must be firearms adept & have annual training. Should get yearly bonus. Shootings will not happen again – a big & very inexpensive deterrent. Up to States.

Most of the student-survivors of Stoneman Douglas are with Jackson and are also opposed to the idea together with teachers union and organizations throught the United States. Instead the students are focusing on gun control regulations and have hit out at the powerful gun lobby the National Rifle Association or the NRA for preventing such measures to to pass in the legislature.
In a previous tweet Jackson also poked fun at the NRA posting a Youtube video of a Dutch television program that made a comedic parody of how the organization is causing a problem in the United States. He wrote "How can they get it so right & we get it so wrong?!".

Many of us are wondering at the same thing, Sam.
