Say Hello To The Hipster Approved Man Braid

Braids were all the rage in 2015, and it seems that in 2016 our hipster friends want to jump on the bandwagon with their own interpretation of the style.

Braids were among some of the most popular female hair styles in 2015 with the likes of celebrities Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, and Vanessa Hudgens paving the way to braidom. However, it seems that our hipster friends want to jump on the bandwagon with their own interpretation of the style. Could this mark the end of last year’s cherished man bun for good? Well, let’s find out.

According to websites like Mashable, Yahoo, and even GQ – who called it ridiculous – the man braid is definitely here to stay, at least for a while until something new arrives. For all I know, it’s better than the glitter beards of last year.

Blech.

With the trend making its way onto the social media universe, men from all around the word are braiding in a variety of styles – from a Heldi (think of Iggy Izalea’s trademark bird nest hair of the 2015 Grammys) to a cropped French or a beautiful Waterfall braid – the possibilities seem like the water cycle we all learned about in elementary school: it’s always going to be recyclable. Speaking of which, some guys chose to combine the man bun with their braids, making it hipster approved. Either way, I’m rather jealous of their newfound expert braiding skills since I cannot braid that well.

Oh, and here is the very American, dinosaur-loving Chris Pratt on his take of a French braid.

According to YouTube beauty star and entrepreneur Michelle Phan, she also agrees that the man braid has made its mark on man hair history. She tells Mashable, “The trend for 2016 will be all about braids. It’s going to be huge this year” and I, for one, believe she’s spot on. How long it’ll last? That I’m not too sure of, but I guess we’ll find out soon.
