Reminiscent of George Michael and Justin Timberlake, the new single from SC.undercover, “Sex Me Like U Want 2”, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere, is an emotional rollercoaster of a tune. The song is a message to people to be confident in their skin and find their inner-confidence and a reminder that people often hide behind an outer layer that protects them and that deep down they just want to be loved and to love.

Asked about the creation of and song-writing process to the song, S.C. says: “I really loved this idea of a character that expresses complete flamboyance, total freedom and confidence in who he is. That can provide encouragement to people who feel they can’t be themselves. But once the lights fade, the music ends, the party’s over and the fun wears off. Reality sinks in and the past comes haunting back in. That’s how I came up with the second half interlude. The real person behind the mask and smoke is the same person as in my previous songs. It’s just a different side to me. I think you find that a lot of that in this business a lot of us are introverted and have a lot of insecurities including me and our art is our way of being who we want to be”. 

Happy whistle synths, funky strums of guitar and reggae-tinged R&B brings a tropical feeling full of sunshine. The track really is a bop; bubbling with humor, fun and confidence. It also splits into two: moving into pulsing, sharp synths, melting, smooth, electric keys and echoes of backing vocals that creates an atmospheric feast of emotion. The hollow echoes give a sense of loneliness portrayed in the song, buttered with SC.undercover’s fluid, running vocals that are like a cry of despair, moving and vulnerable.

Lyrically, the song is diverse, with the “conversation” as it were ranging from talk of the party frolics to the second section – “loneliness occupies my soul and mind, I’m so numb to everything”. The contrast is sharp, and highlights the honesty expressed throughout the track. Often people portray themselves to be far more confident than they are as a coping mechanism, when they are often struggling deep inside – “Sex Me Like U Want 2” is a reminder that you’re not the only one who may feel this way, but we all go through moments of self-doubt. Super comforting, fun and emotional, it’s a track that will break you out of that mold and fill you with life.
