While at SDCC, there are many experiences and activations that fans can adventure through. One of the hottest experiences this year was the Jack Ryan experience. Fans had the chance to go through operative training and become an operative. Operatives had the change to repel from a helicopter, as well as, jump of the side of a building and down a zip line. Sounds intense right? Well, all of this was done with a virtual reality mask on. Not not all fans at SDCC got to go through this experience, but we sent one of our own in to check it out! 

Once you arrive at the training field, you are immediately emersed into the world of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Upon entering the VR training program, our operative was equipped with a full body harness for repelling and zip lining, as well as, a full VR suit that included hand and feet gloves. It got very heavy, very quick. But, that is all a part of the experience! 

After our operative was checked, she was dropped off at the bottom of the training facility and climbed to the top to meet the helicopter team. Once in the helicopter, your mission begins and the VR experience starts. As you are repelling from the helicopter, you are being lowered to another platform in the course, but through the VR experience you are flying over a city about to meet your team on the nearest rooftop.

Once you land, you meet a fellow operative that will then take you through the rest of your mission. Before you move on, you need to cut the power to ensure safety for you and your fellow operative. You then have to make it to another building, but the only way to do that is to walk a wooden plank. In real life, the wooden plank is a metal plank on solid ground that moves as you walk to mimic a real plank. In the VR world, you look like you are about to fall to your death with one tiny misstep. 

When you make it to the building, you are immediately ambushed by the enemy and have to shoot your way out. You are now safe to continue on your mission. But, you have reached the end of this building and the only way out is to zip line to the ground. In the VR world it looks like you are not equipped with a harness and the only way down is to hold on to the bar. Thank goodness, you can convince yourself you are safe and connected. 

Once you reach the bottom, you have to finish clearing the area. Once it is all clear your mission is completed! 

Although you are in a virtual world, it sure does feel like a real one. Watch the video below to see how our recruit did!
