Seinabo Sey managed to grab people’s attention early on with the Kygo remix of her single “Younger”, which got the audiences to look more into her music. The Swedish songstress has come a long way since then and is now preparing to release her debut studio album, titled Pretend.
The record consists of 16 songs, 12 on the standard edition and 4 bonus tracks, and you can see its cover art above. Crafted alongside Magnus Lidehäll (Madonna), you can’t really define Pretend‘s sound, as the tracks are genre-bending and different from what’s out there right now. They’re soulful, they have pop vibes, some are more urban-esque and most of all there’s some serious emotion here, while the instrumentation goes from simple to complex, with orchestral ease and electronic magic beautifully combined. In Seinabo Sey’s own words:
This album is really all about my life. It’s about everything that’s happened to me.
Listening to it, I’ve realised that the way I write, I just try and give advice. There’s always some kind of moral story at the end of every song, so it’s like advice to myself in a way.
Pretend is scheduled to arrive in stores on October 23 and will be a follow-up to Seinabo Sey’s two EPs, For Madeleine and For Maudo, that were named after her parents. Take a look at the entire tracklisting below and make sure to pre-order it on iTunes.
