Following her MTV VMA win for Best Pop video on Sunday night, it may be a while before Selena Gomez wins another music award.
All you fans of Selena Gomez out there might take the latest news on the star one of two ways. Ms Gomez has spoken; she has said that she intends to take a lengthy break from the music scene to focus on her acting career.
At a press conference for her new film Getaway; Gomez discussed her future plans, taking a break from music and further pursuing her acting career with US Weekly.
”I’m a woman so I change my mind all the time. One day I want to do acting and just that, and then other times I just want to do music and just that, so it changes…But this is my last record for a while. I’m going to tour it and then I’m going to just kind of get into acting for a really long period of time, hopefully.”
The news that Selena is ditching music for a while might shock some people; however, she has released four albums to date so it’s probably time for the former Disney star to explore her options. After starring in the much talked about Spring Breakers released earlier this year, Selena expressed her desire to continue challenging herself in different acting roles:
“I’ve been wanting to do different things starting with Spring Breakers…I wanted to do an action movie [like Getaway]…”I got to dye my hair black, it just gave me an opportunity to kind of be someone else.”
This break from music won’t be coming just yet, as Selena still has a long way to go on her ‘Star’s Dance’ tour, set to take Europe, Russia and United States up until November. So don’t go expecting her to be in 20 different films that are coming out next year!
Spring Breakers was the defining moment of Selena breaking away from her younger image. Hopefully we’ll continue to see her challenge herself in upcoming movie roles!
