Late Night host and Saturday Night Live veteran Seth Meyers, 42, and his wife Alexi Ashe Meyers, 32, received an Easter surprise the past Sunday: the birth of their first child.
After cancelling the show on Monday, Meyers told the crazy story of his becoming a dad on Tuesday’s episode of Late Night. The baby was born two weeks early, he explained, which is why the couple’s Easter was a lot more hectic than planned. He told a wild tale of taking an Uber to the hospital while his wife screamed out the window, the sight of all of the nurses wearing bunny ears (even while delivering the baby), and not fully realizing he was a parent until hours later.
Meyers and his wife named their son Ashe Olsen Meyers. Ashe, after his wife’s maiden name, (“I can’t picture a better way to honor what my wife did than naming him after her,” Meyers said on Tuesday’s show), and Olsen after his mother’s maiden name. Despite the similar name, their son was not named after Ashley Olsen, Meyers jokes, claiming that “I’ve long been a Mary Kate guy.”
Meyers told Entertainment Weekly that he was most excited to see if his son would look more like him or his wife. He also discussed how he and his wife prepared for the arrival of their son–by asking seasoned parents for advice. “It’s a lot more fun talking to people who are on their third kid than people who are on their first kid,” he explained, going on to say “they basically just tell you, ‘Look, [babies] are indestructible. You don’t have to worry about it. They’re gonna get bumps and bruises and it’ll be fine.’ So we’ve been trying to spend more time with people that have multiple children.”
