One is a loved underground comedian, the other a dashing heartthrob. What can Mike Birbiglia and James Van Der Beek say they share? Well, according to Birbiglia, he is often told he looks a lot like Van Der Beek, and even approached his lookalike one night on Carson Daly, with a not so satisfying response from Van Der Beek.
On Late Night with Seth Meyers, Birbiglia explained his encounter with Van Der Beek on Carson Daly’s show, saying: “Its the craziest thing that we’re both on this show together, because people have been telling me I look exactly like you. And ‘The Beek’ gave me a look of judgement that I wish upon none of you.”
Van Der Beek, who appeared on the show this week, was asked by Meyers about the incident, to which Van Der Beek says he initially didn’t even remember being on Last Call, never mind even meeting Birbiglia. He dispelled these rumors until he actually realized he had been on the show, and said the encounter with Birbiglia actually did occur. Awkward, right?
Because this is Late Night, Meyers brings out Mike Birbiglia so that “The Beek” can make his apology. It’s all fun and games, with Meyers stating, “This is uncanny!”
