Shailene Woodley’s gorgeous long locks are going to be cut off for her upcoming role in The Fault In Our Stars. Woodle will portray cancer patient Hazel Grace Lancaster from the novel of the same title by John Green.

Shailene’s hair is going to be donated to make wigs and given to children with illnesses that cause them lose their hair.

It was Woodley’s decision to cut her hair and have it donated, which she considers “such an honor”. It’s actresses like her who I find admirable for being presented with an opportunity to give back and they choose to do so.

Woodley took to her Tumblr page to call upon the help of all Nerdfighters and fans of The Fault In Our Stars to start a campaign called #hairforhazel for Children with Hair Loss – an organization that gives free wigs to children in need of them.

Herself, author John Green, and producer Wyck Godfrey are asking any fans with long hair to donate 8 inches to this cause. John Green posted a video about it below with more information:

The fans have definitely taken to this cause and the Twitter and Tumblr tag for #hairforhazel is filled with people showing off the hair they have donated.

Woodley just recently tweeted her thanks for all the support:

The storyline focuses on Hazel and Gus (Ansel Elgort) who meet at the cancer center and fall in love.

The film starts filming this month. It has a release date sometime in 2014.
