Sharon Stone is making her way back to television. The actress is set to play the lead role as the first woman vice president in a new TNT drama pilot Agent X.
TNT summarized the drama as the following:
After the death of her husband, a Senate candidate, Natalie opted to run in his place. After a rapid rise as a political star, she now finds herself the newly elected Vice President of the United States. Initially apprehensive that her job will be ceremonial in nature, she soon learns that it comes with a Top Secret duty: protecting the Constitution in times of great crisis with the aid of her Chief Steward and a secret operative designated ‘Agent X.’
The drama will be penned by The Bourne Identity’s William Blake Herron, with Armyan Bernstein (Air Force One, Children of Men and Castle) set to be an executive producer.
With a long career of acting underneath her belt, Stone’s breakthrough role occurred in 1992 when she starred alongside Michael Douglas in Basic Instinct. Three years later, she landed her first Oscar nomination for her role in Casino.
Though Stone is known for her roles on the silver screen, Agent X won’t be her first appearance on a television show. She has won an Emmy for her appearances on The Practice, and has also had guest roles on Will & Grace, Roseanne and Law & Order: SVU.
Once Agent X hits small screens, Stone will be among other female television VPs including Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep) and Kate Burton (Scandal).
