She Set Fire To The Music Rich List: Adele Takes Top Spot For Second Year Running

The Sunday Times has unveiled its music rich list (MRL): a ranking of the wealthiest people in music in Britain and Ireland. Not surprisingly, for the second year running, singer-songwriter Adele has topped the under 30-year-olds rich list. Despite not releasing any new material, Adele is reported to have increased her fortune by £15 million. Overall, her net worth is at an impressive £45 million.

Now don’t we all wish we could make that much from our own heart aches?

Prolific DJ Calvin Harris follows in at second place with an estimated net worth of £30 million. While returning UK X-factor judge and singer, Cheryl Cole, is at third place with a net worth of £16 million, it was reported that she was paid £1.5 million to return to the judging panel of the highly popular talent show. Cheryl Cole was the winning judge for 2 out of the 3 seasons she mentored in the X-factor.

Speaking of the X-factor, more than half of the top ten of the list is dominated by former finalists of the show! Boy band One Direction, who finished third in the seventh season of the X-factor (which, incidentally, was the last year Cheryl Cole was a judge before taking her hiatus) has scored fourth place. The band has an overall net worth of £70 million, but they were ranked individually. Split five ways, the members–Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson–were assigned a fortune of £14 million each. Meanwhile, X-factor Season 3 winner, Leona Lewis, follows in at 9th place with a net worth of £13 million.

It appears this talent show is a major stepping stone to being in the music rich list, as big boss Simon Cowell, the show’s executive producer and “head judge,” has a fortune of  £300 million. He was ranked #8 on the overall MRL. This of course pales in comparison to the less famous but richer owner of Warner Music Group, Len Blavatnik, who with a net worth of £10 billion was ranked #1 0n the overall MRL.
