Sherlock Holmes fans rejoice, yes you read that right; a Sherlock Holmes theme park is in the works.
Fans of the show, movies, and books alike will all come together to enjoy this £ 25m theme park, which would be centered on Holmes’ adventures. The park would not only include rides, but holograms of Holmes and company as well as a very interactive experience.
The theme park comes as a response to the increasing popularity of Sherlock Holmes in the 21st century. Written in the late 19th century by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the stories began as short stories and grew increasingly in popularity.
Moving into more recent times, Holmes was portrayed in 1939 by Basil Rathbone who started the trend of a more “modern” Holmes. The most recognizable portrayals of the detective came in 2009 when Robert Downey Jr played Holmes in one of two movies and most recently in 2010 with Benedict Cumberbatch’s portrayal in the hit show Sherlock.
No dates are set for the theme park but Steve Pitt, who originated the idea, said “It would be very interactive and high quality.” The park is also set to build in Portsmouth, near the home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s home and where Sherlock Holmes originated.
