Benedict Cumberbatch has once again extended the Sherlock Holmes olive branch. The star of BBC’s Sherlock has already declared his admiration for another Holmes – CBS’s Elementary star Johnny Lee Miller. This time, however, it was all about the one and only Robert Downey Jr.
Downey Jr. has twice played the famed consulting detective in director Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes film series. As a matter of fact, Downey Jr.’s second outing as Holmes hit theaters at just about the same time as Cumberbatch’s Sherlock debuted its second season. Cumberbatch revealed that he recently had the opportunity to sit down with Robert Downey Jr. and “share notes on playing Sherlock Holmes.”
“This is the most dramatised fictional character of all time, so there’s a lot to talk about.”
Contrary to what you may have heard, there is no animosity between any of the actors behind today’s incarnations of Sherlock Holmes. In fact, according to Cumberbatch, all three (himself, Downey, and Johnny Lee Miller) are “fans of one another.”
“No matter what bulls**t the press has tried to whip up in the past, we’re really good friends. And I can safely say that Robert’s in the same camp now, after last night. We had a wonderful chat.”
