Sig Hansen Has Heart Attack While Filming Deadliest Catch

Deadliest Catch star, Captain Sig Hansen, had a heart attack when filming an episode of the reality show. He is currently recuperating.

Sig Hansen, star of Deadliest Catch, deals in danger every day at work, but it was a brush with death that was caught on camera that has everyone talking.

This reality star and captain of the Northwestern, suddenly fell unconscious while out at sea fishing for crab. Captain Sig, who is 49 years old, quickly regained consciousness, but in true Sig style he brushed off the incident and asked to keep fishing as cameras continued to roll.

The Discovery Channel crew had different plans; however, and the insisted that Hansen receive medical attention. They quickly made plans and arranged for an airlift to quickly get him to the closest hospital, which was in Anchorage, Alaska.

His family met him there and eventually reported that he had a heart attack when standing on the deck. His daughter Mandy Marie Hansen, a member of the Deadliest Catch crew, posted to Facebook with photo of her and her family with the words “Capt survived the ‘widowmaker’ !! Beating a heart attack ain’t easy. Welcome back boss.”

The crew of the show reported that Sig Hansen had been experiencing pain in his chest while at sea during filming previous to the incident, but that the reality star was now focused on recuperating and getting back on his feet.

The show’s Instagram account for the show shared a post with the caption, ‘He is with his family and in good spirits.”

The captain is currently resting, and he is supposed to make a full recovery. The team here at PopWrapped send our best wishes as he heals. He will surely be back on the boat in no time, and we can’t wait to see his grand return.

So far, there is no word on if The Discovery Channel will air the incident during the next season, but Deadliest Catch will return to television on March 29.
