Hollywood, the land of dreams, has run out of ideas, or so it seems. Yes, ladies and gents, Sony has purchased the rights for a movie based on everyone’s favourite messaging images, the emoji ?. True story, ridiculous though it may sound.
In fact, they were not the only ones after said rights, having locked horns with Warner Bros and Paramount before coming up triumphant. This is perhaps going to be an even more tenuous film adaptation than the Tetris movie announced last year.
The animated movie is to be co-written by Eric Siegel and Anthony Leondis, and with there being no prior creative ventures based around the Japanese creations, it’s anyone’s guess what they’re cooking up.
But alas, if The Lego Movie taught us anything, it’s that everything is awesome (and that you can make a movie out of literally anything). Here’s hoping that it falls on The Lego Movie side of the fence, rather than the side on which the terrible Battleship movie lurks, looking on in hope that another ludicrous adaptation joins it in the pile of films best forgotten.
