The sequel to The Amazing Spiderman is set for release next year, but Sony has yet to decide on an official title for the film.
ComicBookMovie.com posted an inside scoop on Friday from a reader who recently attended a screening for another movie. While there, he and the other audience members were asked to participate in a survey to pick the subtitle for the next Spiderman installment.
“I saw an advance screening of Captain Phillips last week on Thursday at Mall of America. Before the showing there were Sony people there from their marketing arm asking for people’s opinion on Amazing Spider Man 2 subtitles. There were three subtitles they were testing, but I forget one of them. The two I remember were Amazing Spider-Man: the Price of Power. The second one was Amazing Spider-Man: With Great Power,” the fan wrote.
This debate may be an attempt to give the Spiderman films a place in the spotlight with other Marvel sequels like Thor: The Dark World and Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier.
Much like those two, The Amazing Spiderman 2 will be riding off of the significant profits that the original movie brought in—more than $262 million in the USA alone.
Yet even with that statistic, an engaging move title goes a long way with getting fans to shell out cash for tickets to the newest project.
Despite the title uncertainty, the third film in the franchise has already been announced for 2015, with the screenplay being written by the same trio of writers responsible for the sequel.
The film, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, hits theaters on May 2, 2014.
