Spider-Man Officially Joins The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Sony Pictures & Marvel Studios have announced today that Spider-Man will be joining the rest of the superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

Now this is the stuff dreams are made of!

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have announced today that Spider-Man will be joining the rest of the superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film franchise!

In the new deal, Spider-Man will appear in a Marvel Cinematic film first. Then Sony Pictures will be releasing the next installment in the Spider-Man franchise. Currently there are ongoing negotiations between the two parties on allowing a hero or character from Marvel to cross over as well.

Late last year, when Sony Pictures was hacked and their private business E-mails were released to the public, it was revealed that Sony had negotiated with Marvel to have Spider-Man appear in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, film. The deal did not push through, but thankfully they made a new one.

However, Sony will still retain full creative control and ownership of Spider-Man, which means they have the final say in anything that involves the web-slinger even if he appears in a Marvel film.

The different owners of the film franchises have been the major reason why certain superheroes who often interact in the comic books universe have yet to appear on-screen together. The Avengers and The Guardians of the Galaxy  are owned by Marvel, while Spider-Man is owned by Sony.

With this new partnership, let’s hope that Fox will somehow allow the X-men to join in the superhero mash-up!
