Who hasn’t at one stage in their life grabbed a hold of a lightsaber or lightsaber shaped object and pretended to battle the forces of the evil galactic Empire? It’s almost a rite of passage. While for many this will remain nothing but a childhood dream, two lucky people could find this their reality as Disney has put out an open casting call for Star Wars Episode VII.
The open auditions will be held later this week in the UK and Ireland, including stops in London, Bristol, Dublin and Glasgow, reports BBC News.
A call has gone out for “Nationwide search for [two] lead roles for a Disney film.” The casting notice, published online through the Twitter account @UKopencall, calls for a “street smart and strong” orphan female who “is able to take care of herself using humor and guts to get by”. The girl in her late teens is also “beautiful” and “athletic” and the call is open to all ethnicities. Her name is listed as Rachel, though you can bet that that is a fake name for the purposes of the audition.
The second role advertised is for a “smart capable” young man who has “grown up without a father’s influence” and therefore “doesn’t have the strongest sense of himself”. He is also “handsome” and “athletic”. His name is Thomas.

It may seem an unusual move for such a big name film as Star Wars to hold open auditions for the lead roles however, the franchise is famous for casting unknown and bit-part actors in these parts. This was the case with Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford in the original trilogy and Hayden Christensen in the prequel trilogy.
Auditions begin this Saturday (November 9) in Bristol and dates, times and locations can be gathered from @UKopencall.
Filming is expected to begin early 2014 at Pinewood Studios in the UK with Episode VII released in the summer of 2015.
