Star Wars Episode VIII Finds A Writer And Director

Star Wars: Episode VII has barely began filming, and preparations are already beginning towards a future film, Star Wars: Episode VIII. Earlier, Deadline reported that Rian Johnson is in talks to write and direct the next installment of the Star Wars franchise. In addition, The Wrap has claimed that Johnson will also be involved in writing the initial treatment for the ninth film.

Johnson is known for directing and writing feature films such as Brick, The Brothers Bloom, and Looper which all mainly received positive feedback from critics. Johnson tweeted a clip from the film, The Right Stuff, with the message “Dear Lord, please don’t let me fuck up.” Johnson has his work cut out for him, but what filmmaker wouldn’t love an opportunity to contribute to such an iconic and beloved series?

Earlier this month, two spin-off films were confirmed with Chronicle director Josh Trank attached to one and Godzilla director Gareth Edwards working on the other. With so many talented names being thrown around, fans are becoming hopeful for upcoming Star Wars mythology!

Star Wars: Episode VII is currently filming with a release date slated for December 18th, 2015.
