According to a statement from Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, the upcoming Star Wars trilogy will have no ties to any of the comic series released over the years, which were set after the original film series concluded.
The article, posted on the official Star Wars website, which also explained, “In order to give maximum creative freedom to the filmmakers and also preserve an element of surprise and discovery for the audience, Star Wars Episodes VII-IX will not tell the same story told in the post-Return of the Jedi Expanded Universe. While the universe that readers knew is changing, it is not being discarded.”
While it’s not the best news for fans that treated the series as cannon, clearly it’s not the case. They managed to stress that the future of the series will develop in many ways besides the film franchise adding, “this is just the beginning of a creatively aligned program of Star Wars storytelling created by the collaboration of incredibly talented people united by their love of that galaxy far, far away….”
Are you disappointed or pleased if the film and comic deviations?
