Starbucks To Offer Limited Edition Birthday Frappuccino

Starbucks premier iced drink, the Frappucino, is turning 20, and the coffee giants are releasing a limited edition flavor to celebrate.

2015 marks a milestone in American civilization. I am referring, of course, to the 20th anniversary of the Frappuccino.

That’s right, everyone’s favorite delicious, yet oh-so-overpriced iced coffee drink debuted in 1995, and to celebrate Starbucks is offering a limited edition Birthday Cake Frappuccino. Offered from March 26th to the 30th, the Birthday Cake Frappuccino is a vanilla bean and hazelnut concoction topped with a raspberry infused whipped cream topping.

Seems kind of odd that a birthday cake themed drink wouldn’t be just, you know, birthday cake flavored, but I guess Starbucks knows what they’re doing at this point.

The Frappuccino was launched in the mid 90s as a way to keep Starbucks products relevant in warmer seasons and markets. “When you think about it, 20 years ago, the business, Starbucks hadn’t launched into a whole host of warm weather markets. We were reliant on the holiday season,” Dina Campion, a 20-year employee said in a statement. “With Frappuccino, we were able to level out the dips in store traffic in the summer.”

Even though it will undoubtedly cost way more than anyone should be willing to pay for a drink, a vanilla hazelnut raspberry combo does sound pretty fantastic, so I’ll be sure to grab one of these over the upcoming weekend.
