Starbucks’ #RaceTogether Campaign Encourages Race Discussions

Starbucks has launched their #RaceTogether campaign, which encourages employee and customer discussion about race.

After launching their “Race Together” initiative earlier this week, people are responding to Starbuck’s campaign, which encourages baristas to discuss race with the customers.

Accompanied by full-page ads in The New York Times and USA Today, the company’s involvement in politics isn’t its first. In fact, CEO Howard Schultz has requested gun owners not to bring guns into Starbucks stores in the past.

Twitter reactions to the #RaceTogether initiative is unsurprising: a mixture of encouragement and anger. Understandably, the common opinion is one that agrees that race is an issue, sure, but argue that this doesn’t seem like the right platform to have this type of conversation.
