Stephen King’s book series The Dark Tower will hit the big screen January 13, 2017. The series contained 7 books and spans 30 years. It plays to every genre imaginable. Sony has announced that the book series will be released with both movies and a TV series but they haven’t said which will encompass which books yet. Sounds like and Avengers/Agents of Shield situation.
Sony has chosen a director for the film, Nikolaj Arce. He’s best known for the original adaptation for Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. They have yet to choose any actors for the piece though Javier Bardem was once attached to portray Gunslinger.
The content of these books is dark and Hollywood has a history of lightening things up for viewers who aren’t familiar with the work. That’s a dangerous line that they’ll have to play with. With all book adaptations, there’s no way the films/series can be as good as the books, in my opinion, but I bet Stephen King will give it a damn good try.
And if you haven’t read the book series, you have plenty of time to binge read before January 2017. Crack ’em open, folks!
