Steven Moffat Drops Hints At A Possible Way Around The Doctor’s Regeneration Limit

Rule number one? Steven Moffat lies. If not outright than definitely by omission. He’s a troll, a show-running troll. But he’s the troll who holds the fate of our beloved show in his hands and, according to Moffat, narratives can be rewritten.

In an interview with Broadcast, Moffat has insinuated that change is afoot, “A big episode can be anything that moves the plot along,” he said of the upcoming 50th anniversary Doctor Who episode, “The Day of The Doctor”. “My main thing [when writing a script] was that as much as we celebrate the past, we can change the narrative.”

Everyone’s hoping that this is a way around the 12 regenerations and done dilemma that the show now faces in the wake of Matt Smith’s departure and Peter Capaldi taking the reins. This narrative change could affect the future of Doctor Who, which currently hangs in the balance of as fans try to find a way for the Doctor to live on after this 12th regeneration.

Moffat has no doubt that with Capaldi at the helm the show will continue to flourish. Despite initial grumblings from younger viewers, which Moffat sympathises with, Moffat is absolutely sure that there is no one who could play the part better than the “incredibly skilled, fine actor” that is Peter Capaldi. Moffat is a huge fan and hails Capaldi as a “national treasure”.

Capaldi’s praises aside, what could Moffat be plotting that will change the game and will it cause head or heart aches?

“The Day of The Doctor” airs worldwide on November 23.
