Steven Spielberg Is Forbes Most Influential Celebrity Of 2014

Oprah Winfrey was top of Forbes’ Most Influential Celebrities 2013 list, but has been bumped down to second place this year. In fact, she has switched places with last year’s runner-up, Steven Spielberg, after he scored a massive 47% rating in comparison to Winfrey’s 45%.

Spielberg’s work on Lincoln has brought him a lot of much deserved attention, especially at last year’s Oscar’s; walking away with 2 Oscar’s after an incredible 10 nominations. Lincoln also made $275 million at the box office, a third of which came from overseas where it is notoriously difficult to sell an American Period Political Drama.

The polling for this list is conducted by E-Poll Market Research, who whittled down more than 6,600 celebrities when collecting the data. Gary Philpott, president of E-Poll Market Research, explained how this data is collected: “A celebrity’s ‘Influential’ score represents how that person is perceived as influencing the public, their peers, or both. If anyone doubts that Steven Spielberg has greatly influenced the public, think about how many will think for a second before going into the water this summer.”

Winfrey’s drop from her score off 49 in last year’s polls may be due to the vast amount of time the talk-show host is spending behind the scenes in order to make her cable network OWN successful. She does make appearances though – in between Tyler Perry’s scripted comedies – interviewing stars such as Lance Armstrong and Rihanna.

Third most influential celebrity goes to Star Wars director George Lucas, who despite having mostly retired in order to settle down with his wife and baby daughter, is likely to be back in the spotlight with the approaching 2015 release of the next Star Wars instalment.
