Steven Spielberg Is Set To Produce A DC Superhero Movie

Steven Spielberg is finally entering the superhero genre! He is to produce and possibly direct a film adaptation of a DC comic book series!

Legendary director Steven Spielberg is now entering the superhero genre! He is set to produce the film adaptation of the long-running DC comic book series Blackhawk. And yes, there is a possibility that he may be directing the movie also, but there is no confirmation yet.

The screenplay will be written by one of Spielberg's frequent collaborators, David Koepp who also wrote the script for Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Spielberg will be backed by Warner Brothers Studios which owns the franchise to most DC characters; they also served as the production partner and distributer to his recent outing Ready Player One.

"It was wonderful working with the team at Warner Bros. to bring Ready Player One to the screen," the director said in a statement. "They bring a blend of passion and professionalism to everything they do and have a tremendous history in this genre. I am excited to reunite with them on Blackhawk."

For their part, Warner Brothers Studios is just as excited to bring the Oscar-winning filmmaker on board again. "We are so proud to be the studio behind Steven Spielberg's latest hit and are thrilled to be working with him again on this new action adventure. We can't wait to see what new ground he will break in introducing Blackhawk to movie audiences worldwide," Toby Emmerich, Chairman of the Warner Brothers Pictures Group said.

Blackhawk tells the story of a team of WWII pilots led by a man with the titular name of Blackhawk, in the original and later incarnations he is Polish and was one time given the name of Jonas Prohaska, although there is a version where he is American. There is no word yet on which version Spielberg plans to go with or if the movie will be connected to the larger DC extended universe.

Spielberg could very well save the franchise which has failed to impress critics or catch up with the box office numbers that its rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been able to rack up. If anyone can do it he can, with the help of Patty Jenkins and the Wonder Woman team of course.
