Rap mogul Suge Knight and comedian Katt Williams were both arrested in Los Angeles on Oct 29.
While celebrity arrests are nothing new these days, the charge the two are facing is a strange one, at least on the surface. Knight and Williams were both charged with robbery.
The two wealthy and successful figures weren’t knocking over liquor stores, though. The charges stem from a confrontation with a member of the paparazzi the pair encountered last month in Beverly Hills. The photographer claims the pair stole her camera during the incident. It seems like police had enough evidence to proceed with the case and make the arrests.
While this seems like a matter that could have been easily resolved through the power of their sizable bank accounts, the arrests could now mean serious legal trouble for the two men. The situation is particularly dire for Knight. The Death Row records owner could face thirty years in prison if convicted due to his prior conviction for assault with a deadly weapon. Williams could spend up to seven years on the charge.
Prosecutors will reportedly be asking judges to set bail at $1 million for Knight and $75,000 for Williams.
