Teaser Trailer For New ‘Star Trek’ Series Hits The Web

CBS released a teaser trailer for the new Star Trek series which is set to premiere in January 2017, on CBS All Access, their new video-on-demand platform.

On May 18th, CBS Studios released a teaser trailer for the new Star Trek series at their Upfront presentation at Carnegie Hall. The show is set to premiere in January 2017 on CBS All Access, their new video-on-demand platform.

The series promises “new crews, new villains, new heroes, and new worlds!” Here’s some info from The Hollywood Reporter:

[Star Trek] will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise.

This probably means a whole new ship and crew will act as the focal point of the series, while taking place concurrently with the last two movies.

And here’s the teaser trailer:

This short teaser trailer is exactly that … a tease. Earth looks like it will be involved, and all the imagery looks amazing. It also gives us a sweet new logo.

Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller are heading up the new series as executive producers. Kurtzman has previously worked with J.J. Abrams on the Star Trek films. Nicholas Meyer, who helped write and direct Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, will be joining the writing team.

Check out more rumors from Cheatsheet:

We don’t have many details on the greater narrative behind the series, but recent rumors tell us that CBS may be setting the show directly before The Next Generation on the Star Trek timeline. Additionally, a report from BirthMoviesDeath claims that it will “not be set on an Enterprise ship,” citing a “heavily serialized” series structure. It’s an interesting break from the norm, and should go a long way toward setting the rebooted series apart from its predecessors.

As a big fan of sci-fi — especially Star Trek — this is something for which I’m very excited.  Stay tuned to PopWrapped as more details unfold!
