The Daily Telegraph has fired back at one journalist whose article about Kate Winslet’s pregnancy “is entirely critical of Winslet for no justifiable reason.”
Said article (titled “Three babies by three fathers – will it be third time lucky for Calamity Kate Winslet?”) was written by Judith Wood and “slut-shamed” the Oscar winner for her third pregnancy by a third guy.
“I know that you are a woman of grand, towering passions and deep, gushy emotion,” Wood wrote. “But you are steering perilously close to clinching the Ulrika Jonsson Dysfunctionality Award for Services to Broken Britain.”
Wood went on to tell Winslet that her behaviour would not mean well for her children as they grow up.
The piece did not go over well on the website’s comments page or Twitter page, but those comments were nothing compared to what one fellow journalist said about the piece.
“It would be really nice, one day, if columnists stopped judging women based on their sex and personal lives. It’s not going to happen any time soon,” Zoe Margolis, an opinion writer for the Telegraph, wrote as she criticized Wood’s article.
Margolis was exposed in The Sunday Times seven years ago as the anonymous author of the blog and book Girl with a One Track Mind, in which she detailed her sexual activities. Since then, the semi-feminist writer hoped that people’s minds had opened a little when looking at women.
“Here we are now, in 2013, and you’d think attitudes about women would have changed for the better, but if anything the moralizing has only got worse. I was infuriated to read
Judith Wood’s hateful article on Kate Winslet earlier today.”
There has been no word from Winslet’s camp about the article.
