Grab some tissues before you read this one–it’s a tear jerker. I can tell you this from personal experience.
Many daughters dream of having their fathers walk them down the aisle on their wedding day, but 11-year-old Josie Zetz will not get that chance. Her father, 62-year-old Jim Zetz, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and the family knows their time together is short.
The family hired photographer Lindsey Villatoro whose company, Love Song Photography, specializes in working with the families of terminally ill to document their journeys.
Villatoro spoke with the Huffington Post, saying, “I try to really showcase the person for who they are and not the illness.”
Once the initial photos were done, Villatoro worked with the family by publishing their photos to her site, which started to bring in donations. At that point, Villatoro got the idea to stage a wedding and take photograph’s of the Zetz family. This way, young Josie will get as close as she can to having her father walk her down the aisle and have the photos to treasure always.
According to Villatoro, Josie described the day as being the “best day of my life.” Villatoro even went a step further, videotaping the event. The photos and story have since gone viral. This experience has created touching memories for a family who won’t be together for very long. But they know that these photos and videos will show how close they will always be.
